Fifth graders in Mrs. Levine and Mrs. Carrera's classes are are finishing up their social studies unit on countries located in the Western Hemisphere. One of the lessons, called "The Real Cost of Bananas," delves into the practices of importing and exporting, fair trade and supporting farmers and their communities.
How do you get kids excited about brushing their teeth? You send Timmy the Tooth to visit their school, of course! And that’s exactly what happened at Montebello Elementary this morning when students received a visit from Timmy, Patty Paste and Fifi Floss, who came by to share some tips to keeping their teeth in top shape.
Not only is today the Friday before a break, but it’s also Valentine’s Day AND the Rockland Read In, an event dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading. The classrooms of Suffern Central were filled today with parents, administrators, police officers, Rotarians, Board of Education members and local business owners who generously gave their time to read to our students. Thank you to everyone who participated. With a snowy weekend ahead, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a good book!
Since it's inception, Suffern High School's Heroes and Cool Kids club has traveled to the middle school to mentor sixth, seventh and eighth graders and answer any questions they have about high school life.
We've posted a lot about CKLA, the District's new literacy program rooted in the Science of Reading, and with good reason. The end of each unit brings with it the opportunity for students to engage in creative educational projects.
